@Chris:
Is there some way to make the Spectrum Display show the same amplitude waveform when recording as it does when in playback?

Spectral display oddities
When I set Goldwave up to record the audio on my PC's line-input, the spectrogram display seems to smear. In the image below, I am monitoring the WWV time station. The vertical lines are the "ticks" which occur each second. The first four seconds of the display on the left is the output wi...

Re: Files take longer to save after microsoft automatic upda
If there is a system restore point just before the automatic update was done, I would do a restore to that point. Once the system is restored and rebooted, the system update will be done again but this time not while you are recording.

Re: Foot pedal controls: 2011 edition
Your suggestion appears to not work with the VEC Infinity pedal, which is a USB pedal I discovered just yesterday afternoon that, unfortunately, not all USB pedals look like a joystick. Some of them look like a serial port and instead of opening a joystick port, Goldwave would have to handle a COM ...

Re: Foot pedal controls: 2011 edition
@Tamara: The setup screen I described in my previous message allows you to select one pedal for play/pause, one for rewind and one for fast forward. The rewind is active while you hold down the pedal and isn't fast so it's easy to make it go back a few seconds.

Re: Foot pedal controls: 2011 edition
it does not appear to work with the Infinity USB foot pedals Have you tried to configure Goldwave to use the pedal? A lot of those foot pedals emulate a 2 button joystick controller interface where the play pedal sets both buttons 1 and 2, reverse is button 1 and (fast) forward is button 2. I set u...

Re: problems with click reduction using pop/click filter
I looked at the spectrum of the click in 4.mp3. It is not just a high frequency click (which could be removed with a low-pass filter). It also has strong frequency components throughout the normal speech band (up to about 4kHz) which will make it very difficult to remove without having a significant...

Re: Whistling "S"
P.S. This is herbert after a 3000-4000Hz bandstop filter with steepness 10 has been applied.

Re: Whistling "S"
The whistling "S" is obviously a higher frequency than most other speech sounds so if you can identify a frequency range which corresponds to that sound you can filter it out. I have Goldwave configured so that it always starts up with the FFT spectrum showing as well (I forget how you sel...

Re: Whistling "S"
I had a look at the FFT spectrum of Herbert's whistling. The frequency of the "S" appears to be in the range 3000-4000Hz so I applied a bandstop filter with steepness 10 and it seems to knock out the worst of the whistle without affecting the intelligibility of the result. Play around with...

Re: Saving as MP3 creates "fuzziness
I played with the options described by Chris and setting "joint stereo" while leaving the quality at high produces a better sounding file.

Re: Saving as MP3 creates "fuzziness
I can hear the problem in your mp3 versions.
I loaded the wav file and saved it as Layer-3 ACM, 44100kHz, 128kbps, joint stereo and the result sounds much better than the other mp3 files.
The Fraunhofer ACM MPEG encoder was already installed on my system (Win XP Pro 32-bit).
Best Wishes

then filtering out the lower sideband. However, in doing so, I'm losing quite a bit of my signal's low frequency information. Just how low a frequency do you need? This will determine how sharp the filter needs to be to filter the lower sideband and carrier but leave the upper sideband unaffected. ...
