I apologize for the delay in the next NR installment. I've been busy lately. My mother is here until early September. Her 91st birthday is in about a week. She is quite high maintenance! I'll try to get the next installment up in the next few days.

Re: latest LAME encoder?
Keep in mind that the 64-bit LAME encoder DLL will not work with 32 bit Goldwave. Goldwave ignores it. Hopefully, 64-bit Goldwave will work fine with 64-bit LAME. I have not experimented with both 32-bit AND 64-bit LAME DLLs in the Goldwave folder at the same time.

Re: NR Revisited
Chris, I understand the alignment/phase issues you mentioned. However, they should be irrelevant for the pop/tick filter. I also understand why for many users it would not be a good idea in general to snap-to-grid for each channel separately. Once the feature is activated, it would tend to be forgot...

Re: NR Revisited
Pop/Tick reduction should not warp the sound, and I have never seen such an anomaly when I have processed pop/ticks separately for each channel, manually setting the cursors at the zero-crossings

Re: NR Revisited
Chris, I just repeated the experiment I did some time ago with a true stereo file and the snap-to-zero-crossing feature. Unless I made a cockpit error, this feature does not operate on the two channels independently. The left channel cursors snapped to the zero crossings, but the right channel curso...

JackA,
Actually, I did some assembly programming in school, using the old PDP-8 instruction set. I never used assembly in my professional work, however.

Hello, JackA
I used to enjoy debugging software, but nowadays my attitude is "Been there, done that." I just want it to work, and begrudge the time I must take away from what I really want to do to figure out why software doesn't perform as advertised.

Re: NR Revisited
One term that will be used often in this discussion is “zero-crossing”. “Zero-crossing” is that point in the waveform where it goes from one side of zero magnitude to the other side of zero magnitude. The waveform has crossed the zero point, hence the term “zero-crossing.” As the waveform time incre...

Re: NR Revisited
Audio Noise Reduction Procedures used by Malin Jacobs, Installment 1 “Noise” can be defined as any audible signal contained in an audio source other than the desired signal. This definition is very broad, and can include objective items such as the rumble of traffic outside of a recording location d...

NR Revisited
On April 6, braders447 posted some comments about noise reduction, which generated considerable response. I have been using Goldwave as my primary music editor/processor for nearly 15 years. After reading the comments to braders447's post (most pretty good, some incredibly naïve), I will be posting ...

Chris,
The File Merger tool works as you stated. With Copy/Paste available, it didn't occur to me to look for another tool to merge files.
Thanks

Annoying "Feature" of either Goldwave or Windows
I have been using Goldwave since before the year 2000, and one "feature" has been consistent throughout all versions of Goldwave and/or Windows (I don't know which). First some background: I use goldwave primarily to edit for classical music which I have ripped from CDs. Some pieces have m...
