Sorry chaps! I have just noted that the MP3 files that played poorly (mentioned above) were those created in GWave. This was so because I had not downloaded the LAME codec as the Manual suggests! MP3 files play poorly

In the Open Sound window of GWave, MP3 files play at low quality (music recognisable, but less volume and crackling), as they do in Windows Media Player 10 (in my case). However, if the equivalent music as WMA is imported into GWave and converted to MP3 it plays correctly (high quality) while in GWa...

PN: thanks for your response.
However, I was refering to playing CD tracks before ripping, as other Apps do, so that you can decide which tracks to rip and which to ignore! With GWave you have to rip all tracks and then there is the need to open them just to decide which ones to keep!

When ripping from a CD, it is a great pity GWave can't allow play of the tracks. If I have time to sort through and edit the tracks (trim & maximize) at that time, I rip & open them all. Then, quickly play them and if unwanted I enter a 'D' under Genre in Info and once edited I close GWave a...

If you have your video/audio file on PC as an AVI file it is easily opened in a free PGM like virtualDubMod (Open, Streams, Stream list and 'Save as Wav'). If the DVD is available play it into your PC's Line In and record in an Audio Editor, then, save as WAV.
