Re: New Computer and Trouble

On the "Device" tab of GoldWave's "Control Properties" dialog do you have any options available in the drop-down list for the "Record" source other than "E-DSP Wave [1000] [071B]"? For example, on my machine the choices are... Primary Sound Capture Driver [07...

Re: New Computer and Trouble

I've installed the latest soundcard drivers. The following is a link to a screen shot (download for better visibility): http://www.box.com/s/ki8gymgg4zbpee2a8flc On the left is the control screen for the soundcard (Patchmix) showing ASIO OUT 31/32, with VU meters flashing. On the right is the screen...

Re: New Computer and Trouble

After your system rebuild did you check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your sound card? It appears that the Playback part is working but the Recording side is broken (Windows does not detect a "mixer device"). Also, what, if anything, do you see on the "Volume"...

New Computer and Trouble

I really shouldn't have done it - had the HDDs on my machine cleaned and formatted, and Win XP reinstalled. Sure, it's much faster, but: 1) I didn't pay enough attention to the setup of my soundcard (EMU 1820M), 2) I didn't pay enough attention to the setup of Goldwave, and I forget how to do it. No...

Should know better but . .

I've been a registered user for a long time, but never pain any attention to the use of FLAC files.

Now I have a FLAC file and don't know how to get it into GW.

Any clues? I don't have any.

Nick

Don't bother - I found out how by reading the manual. ;)

Re: Record in one track, play in another track simultaneousl

I'm not aware of a method in Goldwave wherein a second track can be recorded into a previously recorded track while playing the first. I'm sure that the new track being recorded will wipe out the first one. However, I quite often mix two prerecorded tracks. With both tracks loaded and on the screen,...

Re: MP3 Audio "save as" options and LAME

Hey Nick — It's good to have you back among us! You should be able to save at 100% - or - Zero (0). But, for no good reasons I could never explain, I usually save things at -1. Thanks Don: I primarily spend time with Pianoteq for piano sounds, but of course still use Goldwave extensively. I'm confu...

Re: MP3 Audio "save as" options and LAME

Thanks Doug, I think I'll just leave well enough alone, and stay with what I have (it works). No I didn't move on - I've done quite a bit of photography the past four years. I use Pianoteq for the sound with my digital piano (never have liked any of the onboard sounds of DPs), and I'm a beta team me...

Re: MP3 Audio "save as" options and LAME

I've been away for quite a while (forgot my password and received a new one). I'm also confused about something: When converting a WAV to MP3, there are many choices, but I'm only concerned about the differences in the following: 1) Layer - 3 2) Layer - 3 ACM It's been so long since I downloaded the...

If your files are MP3 and you're wanting to do this for playback, you're better off finding a plugin or media player that will do this for you. If you open the mp3's in goldwave, edit, and save as mp3, you're encoding that mp3 twice, and this really hurts the quality. There's also something to cons...

What I'm going to say hopefully won't be construed as an insult to our OP. There is an old adage, "you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear". It particularly applies to music or sound. With a digital photograph, I can easily manipulate individual pixels (I've done it countless times) t...

First I'll make it clear that I am not an audio expert in any way. I downloaded the file and maximized it a bit (to -10 dB), and I noticed three odd things. 1. The left channel is louder than the right. 2. Listening to the "wave file", it seems that the left channel is higher frequency tha...

I can't help you with your question, but I'm puzzled as to why upgrading is difficult with XP. I've been running XP since it came out and upgrading GW was probably the easiest upgrade of any software I use (and this includes photography software from Adobe - which by definition IS a PITA  ). Fu...

I probably shouldn't wade into this conversation but I will. I don't have nearly the knowledge of digital of you three, but there may be something I can add. There is a problem removing noise and there always will be. There is also a great deal of effort by some in separating all the intruments of a...
