Re: Recording over silence gives severe distortion
OK, thanks both. Thought it would be a trivial task but clearly not! I was just accepting whatever defaults were in place, using the same mic device for the original and the attempted voice over. As a novice I didn't expect to hit issues with 'attributes'. I realise now that I should have read the H...

Re: Recording over silence gives severe distortion
No one who knows easy way wayto insert fresh narrative before existing recording please?
Overall task is to get 40 recordings of my spoken numbers, one to forty. The subject task is something I''ll have to do occasionally during this. (But I'm also curious why the way I did it doesn't work.)

Recording over silence gives severe distortion
On the right are some brief voice messages. I want to record some more before them. So I added 20 s of silence, selected a section of it on the left, clicked 'Records over the current selection' and made the brief clip on the left. But when I play it back it's an awful buzzy distortion. Where am I g...

Re: Novice; creating 'rumble' of surf?
I'd just try noise with a low-pass filter and boost the volume as needed. Noise is random and it should theoretically contain components down to zero Hz. Thanks Doug. Very interested in your legacy simulations. Me too, a 1999 project: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gg2al6whopciwok/SurfBlock.gif?raw=1 Du...

Re: Novice; creating 'rumble' of surf?
I would start with recordings of actual surf noises and just manipulate those. And I wouldn't use GoldWave to do it. I would use an app that would allow me to manipulate separate tracks, something like Audacity or Reaper. Then I could time the different effects, fade in, fade out --- that sort of t...

Starting a new recording
In 6.76 has the procedure for starting a fresh recording changed? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but it seems that I have two options, neither of which seem entirely satisfactory, and I don't recall realising this before during my (infrequent) use of GW. 1. From the opening screen press t...

Novice; creating 'rumble' of surf?
My project is to simulate the gentle sound of sea (not ocean) surf slowly increasing in volume, breaking on the shore, then receding with a deeper rumbling noise over the pebbles and finally fading to a murmuring hiss. I've started with a 5 minute file of brown noise, using Tools > Expression Evalua...

Re: Filtering out a sort of 'boomy/echoing'
Thanks both, much appreciate the feedback. That's reassuring. And since posting I've been coming to the same conclusion. Partly must be my own voice. I suppose the voice does change as we get older. I can hear a rather similar sort of 'slight deep echo?' effect just talking out loud in front of the ...

Filtering out a sort of 'boomy/echoing'
Could one of the experts kindly tell me what I can do in GW to remove this slightly unpleasing sound please? My mic is of high quality, an AKG Perception 120 USB. It's a while since I last did any recording (narrative for my holiday video projects) and don't think I've changed any settings. Here's a...

Re: Batch processing subfolders
Sorted! I missed the optional check box Include all subfolders in the smal Add Folders dialog.
But is there no way to do this by initially dragging the set of folders into a GoldWave batch processing dialog? I had to first set up a new souce folder and place my target folders in that.

Batch processing subfolders
I want to process all files in two folders, and get the results in two subfolders within a destination I have specified. But clearly I've misunderstood the settings, as nothing is processed. Earlier I'd tried simply dragging the two subfolders into the sources window. That was processed, but all res...

Save first 10s of many files - possible with batch?
I'm a GoldWave novice, but from ten minutes or so studying the File > Batch Processing dialogs am I right that it's not within its scope?
For a few files it would be an easy task, but I have over a hundred I want to trim to the first 10 seconds.
