Re: Music library on a PC

Thank you for your reply, I've tried Foobar in my travails and its ripping is sort of OK. I actually managed to get a couple of operas into separate folders and the File names are fine. e.g. 2.05. Akt 2 - (Enzo) - Cielo e mar!.flac is disc 2, track 5, title Cielo e mar. And the tracks are neatly arr...

Music library on a PC

This is really off topic for Goldwave, but there are so many knowledgeable guys here I thought I'd give it a go. I have what I thought was a simple requirement. I want to load several hundred classical CDs on to a laptop or other device (FLAC or MP3) and arrange them so I can view the full collectio...

Re: USB digital input

I contacted ARTcessories who make the USB Phono pre-amp I use. I received this reply: ------------------------------------ "We have heard complaints (and a web search shows this is across the board, not just ART models) with noise / too much gain when USB audio devices are used with Windows7. H...

Re: USB digital input

Thanks for the reply. I happen (temporarily) to have a dual boot set up with XP and W7 on my old PC and want to avoid that on the new one, and the OS's work differently on the one machine. 1. XP doesn't give any sort of message about installing hardware when the pre-amp is plugged in. Goldwave recor...

USB digital input

I've just switched to Windows 7 on a new PC. I own a phono pre-amp with both analogue line and digital USB output. When I plug the pre-amp into the PC it installs as a "Microphone (USB Audio Codec)". Clicking Record starts at an absurdly high level, almost as if line input was plugged into...

... just a quick extra note to DougDbug's reply:
If you've used Audacity I think it uses 'Export' if you want to choose a format other than Audacity's 'Save Project'. In Goldwave, as Doug said, you just use your preferred file format when you save.

My sound card (on-board) has the facility to "monitor" the S/PDIF in, i.e. allow me to listen in on the signal, and I could hear the ticks and pops live during recording. They also came through with the monitor switched off. If you can hear the noises with the S/PDIF monitor off, it sugge...

Just a short report on the ART Phono Plus v2 which arrived three days ago. It is a doddle to set up and a 9v power supply is provided, which i used in preference to the USB so that I could use the ART as a phono amp without the PC turned on. Windows XP recognized the USB device, and Goldwave default...

I've got nothing to really add...I can issue the standard "i've done all kinds of vinyl if you get stuck, ask" and to not get too caught up in noise cleanup. it's going to be there, you're not going to remove it all. i will say you ALWAYS use a phono preamp...NEVER cheap out and go into t...

Thank you for all the replies. They've decided me to go the pre-amp > USB route. I've been tempted by the line-in level, and line out capability of the ART phono box. It has some good reviews and a 44.1 sample option, so I think that is the one I'll choose. The dealer I've found has a 14 day return ...

LP to CD and USB phono amps

Sorry in advance about the length of this... I want to copy LPs to CDs via my PC (to do some clean up) and there seem to be two options from my Project Xpression turntable (MM cartridge output): 1. Use a line-out from my main amp (Denon PMA700E) to the PC line in and let the PC on-board sound proces...

It sounds as if you might not have the correct recording source selected in Windows. Try this: 1. Right click the loudspeaker icon in the Quick Start area. 2. Click Open Volume Control 3. Click Options and select Properties 4. Click the Recording Radio Button and make sure the correct source is chec...

Re: Edit/Cue Point/New at Start or Edit/Cue Point/New at Fin

I still feel that the present process for adding a cue point is too cumbersome. I'd like to be able to add a cue point at the start or end of the current selection by doing something like "Edit/Cue Point/New at Start" or "Edit/Cue Point/New at Finish". Also, I'd like to be able ...

I'm afraid I've encountered another snag. Ctrl-Q now always places a cue-point at the cursor position even when play is stopped........I wouldn't mind so much if there was an easy way to get the cursor back to the selection start and stay there, but I cant find any cursor control at all..... Whoops...

I'm afraid I've encountered another snag. Ctrl-Q now always places a cue-point at the cursor position even when play is stopped, rather than the selection start position. The only shortish way to get the Cue at the selection start seems to be Shift-Ctrl-Q then click At Start then click OK. Am I miss...
