Re: I hit record, clock doesnt start
And I assume your preamp is connected to Line-in (blue) on your soundcard? Go to Options -> Control Properties -> Device and make sure you've selected the correct recording input/device. Also check Options -> Control Properties -> Record and make sure Level Activated is not selected.

Re: How to Increase Volume of MP3 File
Longer answer: The digital maximum is 0dBFS (zero decibels full scale). If you try to go over 0dB you can get clipping (distorted squared-off waves). Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs - recording), digital-to-analog converters (DACs - playback), regular WAV files, and audio CDs are all hard-limited...

Re: How to Increase Volume of MP3 File
Short answer:
Run the Maximize Volume Effect (Effect -> Volume -> Maximize Volume).
In audio terminology this is called "normalizing", but GoldWave calls it "maximizing" and that's a better English word.

What are you trying to record from? The mic built into your laptop? Streaming audio? Etc.?

Re: Not quite sure how to even ask this question as I'm new to GW
Sorry you're not feeling well. I really depends on what your nephew is doing or what he's concerned with. - Most "quality problems" are on the analog & acoustic side. That could be during recording or playback. - Or you can get a "digital glitch" while recording (analog-to-di...

Re: Not quite sure how to even ask this question as I'm new to GW
I suspect what you may have been asked to do is to decompress and recompress to MP3 100 times to assess quality loss. Nine different codecs 100-pass recompression test But right... That does not involve mixing and there would be no point with WAV or other lossless files. to test loss of quality etc...

Re: Not quite sure how to even ask this question as I'm new to GW
Mixing is done by summation so if you mix a file with itself you are simply doubling the volume. In decibels that's a gain of +6dB. Digitally, that's done with sample-by-sample addition (i.e 44,100 samples-per-second, etc.) and analog mixers are built around summing amplifiers. Analog mixers have l...

Re: WavPack Support?
You can save-as WAV/IEEE Float Signed 32-bit, then use another tool to compress to WavPack. There is a higher range (32 bit) and converting to Flac would cut out data. I doesn't cut-out anything audible . The guys who do blind ABX tests have pretty-much proven that "CD quality" is better t...

Re: Installing Goldwave on non-internet pc
Is your Windows 10 64-bits? Some older versions of GoldWave run on 32-bits but the current one is 64-bits only. (I forgot how to check if Windows is 32 or 64 bits but you can Google it.) If you can't get it installed there is a form here that you can use to contact GoldWave's developer directly and ...

Re: Installing Goldwave on non-internet pc
No you don't need a connection. Just the installation file (InstallGoldWave654.exe). And then the registration information if/when you buy a license. I just tried it on a "fresh computer" at work. (You'll want to un-check "check for updates" under Help -> About.) Hi, I'm interest...

Re: Spectrum Filter - Dynamic Mode - What is it?
I haven't used it but it's explained in the help file. It looks like it "fades" the filter effect in-or-out over-time. I'll tell you what I would REALLY like to be able to do: apply EQ/Spectrum Filter ONLY when the musical passage gets above a certain volume level. A "Dynamic Equalize...

Re: Download problem
It's been awhile since I had that problem but you might try a download manager . I sort-of thought that was built-into Windows now, but maybe my "big'" problems went-away when I upgraded from dial-up. ...I have the slowest DSL plan but it doesn't cut-off. And, I have Internet access at wor...

Re: Silence in audio file
If this is an MP3 it's normal to have a little added silence at the beginning and at the end. (It should be less than 1/2 second.)
MP3 is lossy compression so it's imperfect and that's one of the imperfections.

Re: Volume vacillates
You'll probably have to dig through the Windows settings. Start by right-clicking the Windows speaker/volume icon then Open Sound Settings and look for "advanced" settings for you soundcard/speakers and maybe some kind of "enhancements" that might alter the sound. ...I found some...
