Re: Save As, but retain type
It seems to remember the basic type (MP3, WAV, etc.) but not the attributes/details. so that no re-coding is needed. When you open a compressed file in any "normal" audio editor or DAW it gets decompressed.* If you re-save as MP3 you are going through another generation of lossy compressio...

Re: Pre-sales question: record song snippets from Spotify?
Yes. Read above! But note that it's a copyright violation and a violation of your Spotify agreement. If they wanted you to have a copy they would give you a "download" button. The artist gets a fraction of a penny every time you stream a song, but they get nothing once you've stolen it. I...

Re: Installing Golcwave in Linux?
The FAQ recommends GoldWave Infinity (browser based).
(I'm a Windows guy and I haven't bothered to try it.)
Or Audacity (open source audio editor) may be a better choice for you.

Re: No sound when using Behringer device
I don't own the Behringer but it's supposed to be plug-and-play with the Windows supplied drivers. There may be an optional ASIO driver (ASIO4ALL ?) but GoldWave isn't an ASIO application. (Installing the ASIO driver shouldn't hurt anything.) Can you use it as a playback device with other applicatio...

Re: No sound when using Behringer device
Go to Options -> Control Properties -> Device and check make sure you've selected the USB device as your recording and playback devices. There are also some test buttons and a couple of settings you can play with. You can also to to to Options -> Control Properties -> System and there a couple of th...

Re: Help request to DougDbug (Angelic Frequencies)
OK, 100% is no change and 110% is 10% higher in pitch, etc. A2 is normally 110 Hz so that's 111/110 = 1.009 = 100.9% A3 is normally 220 Hz so that's 222/220 = 100.9% (same as above) E4 is normally 329.628 Hz so that's 333/329.628 = 101.02% A4 is normally 440 Hz so that's 444/440 = 100.9% C#5 is norm...

Re: Help request to DougDbug (Angelic Frequencies)
I'll have to go-back and refresh my memory... I'm at work now so it will be a few hours.
I need to experiment with pitch-change because it can be confusing.... "100%" can sometimes mean a 100% increase (twice the frequency) and sometimes it means 100% of the original (no change).

Re: Novice; creating 'rumble' of surf?
I'd just try noise with a low-pass filter and boost the volume as needed. Noise is random and it should theoretically contain components down to zero Hz. Do you have a "big" subwoofer? If not, you can't over-do the deep bass without getting distortion. ...A million years ago I wrote a surf...

Re: External device input via USB
USB Audio Interface . I recently bought the ART USB Phono Plus but I haven't used it yet. Most of these are plug-and-play with the Microsoft supplied drivers. One thing to look-out for - Some cheap audio interfaces don't have a recording level control. Since the analog-to-digital converter is built...

Re: high cut question and request a full frequency limit
Dynamic means that it changes over-time (over a selection) . You could start-out with no filtering at the beginning of a file/selection and slowly increase the filtering to the end, etc. Most of the time you use Static to apply the same filtering throughout and then there is only one cutoff frequenc...

Re: Recording volume too low
You need a phono preamp . A phono preamp serves two purposes, it boosts the signal from the phono cartridge up to line-level and it applies the RIAA Playback Equalization . Without the EQ you get all-highs and no bass. I actually would expect the Focusrite to have enough gain when set to microphone,...

Try Effect -> Volume -> Auto Gain (automatic).
Or, Effect -> Volume -> Shape Volume (manual).

Re: Overlay and combine?
Is there a way to adjust the start point so that both files start at exactly the same time? Yo'll need to zoom-in until you can see samples/stair steps. Then, I think the only way to "shift" the waveform is to insert silence at the beginning (or delete existing silence). That might some t...

Re: Overlay and combine?
Open both files. Select one and Effect -> Invert . Copy that file (into the clipboard). Go the 1st file and click Mix . (Mixing is done by summation. You are adding a negative which is subtraction.) Depending on the "subtraction" you may get some new higher-peaks and you may have to run th...
