For recording tapes, someone told you wrong. However, and i'm sure everyone is gonna start flaming me for being stupid...that or agree with me cuz i feel i have a point on this. When recording vinyl, it's not necesslary having headphones, but it's more about killing the speakers. Let's remember, vin...

VQF 1.0 (classic TwinVQ - 96kbps max) is DEAD. It died around 2000 when the last remaining users of the format on DalNet took thier websites down. Why? Well, for starters, Nero was finally giving us the 192kbps VQF we had been waiting on for years. It was a disaster. VQF 2.0 wasn't that great and 19...

actually, i just remembered, i have a winamp DSP plugin that does a very similar process, only it's not as customizable, but it works rather nicely.
http://www.moitah.net/dsp_centercut-1_2_0.zip
drop the DLL into your winamp directory.
i can't believe i forgot about this.

kinda
Goldwave has a somewhat simple method of doing a vocal removal. It works by doing either a simple cancellation, bandstop, or both. Most vocals are in the "center" of the sound stage, meaning it's in-phase in both channels. Goldwave basically applies a phase-cancellation, which removes ever...

I hope you're doing this for personal consumption, because if you want to automate a restoration process, then i feel sorry for anyone who listens to your recordings. goldwave has been my audio editor of choice for many years, however, the one area i will say it lacks on is pop/click repair. it's..a...

Goldwave is the program that ushered me into the digital audio world. I got it on a copy of the CD boot magazine (which is now MaximumPC) used to put out. It was funny because that was the month i was looking at audio programs. I registered in 1997 and i've been EXTREMELY happy with the program sinc...

you're gonna need a second sound card. that's my simple answer. USB's are easier, and yes, they do make some nice high quality USB devices for sound. But, from my knowledge of most cards, yeah, a second one would solve your problems for the interviews. as far as recording mp3 streams, yes, a second ...

More advanced vocal reduction/extraction
I bring this here because, well, i don't know how to program and i'd love to see this in Goldwave. Now, Goldwave does have vocal removal, but it's still pretty baisc (sorry Chris), and for a while the best solution i had found was contained in Adobe Audition's Center Channel Extraction. But someone ...
