It really depends on how much OS-specific code is in GW. Chris could spend a lot of time porting that code to other platforms with the net result that no advancements in functionality are accomplished for a long time , and other audio editors have an opportunity to catch up and possibly even overtak...

Yes, I think it's a great idea too, so long as the musical styles are similar. We all have LPs where the frequency mix is far from ideal, and which we'd like to convert to digital, but using standard EQ techniques is a bit too hit and miss.

The MP3 format is just discrete chunks of binary data, each of which is quite capable of existing independently from the rest. This is why a half-ripped (or half-downloaded) MP3 can be played perfectly fine. Merging them together is just a simple matter of concatenating the binary data. There's no n...

Notepad is always a good one. :D

That's definitely a Windows problem, and it looks as though GoldWave either isn't properly installed on your PC or something else is stomping over the "Open with" options. My money's on the latter. You could try putting a shortcut to GoldWave in your "Send To" menu. - Turn on Hid...

A lot of it depends on the source. If you're getting signals in above 22050 Hz then you risk aliasing unless you use a samplerate higher than 44100. You could of course decide to totally trust the ADC in your soundcard, but I personally prefer not to. A lot of what applies to image processing can al...

I can vouch for the "Goldwave runs portably" statement as I've also done the same, quite a lot. It does however write to the registry, so it's not a "real" portable app, but then this was likely never the intention, so I view it's portability as a bonus. Incidentally, it's also v...

Or just do Shift-S to zoom in on your selection, and Shift-P to zoom back out. :D

I normally use the Parametric EQ spectrum window for this. It's capped at 22050 Hz but lets you scroll through the spectrum of the entire sound, and can - in my opinion - be more useful than a "true" spectrum analyser.

Suggestions for future release

Howdy, 2 suggestions for a future release, if anyone wishes to take note. One is - I believe - genuinely useful, the other a matter of personal preference. The genuinely useful one first - I use GW quite a bit for recording from vinyl, and would love to be able to save a clipboard-based noise reduct...

I personally wouldn't use 44.1. My cartridge can output signals higher than 22.05 KHz, so whether or not I can hear them, there is potential for aliasing. I prefer to lowpass these manually rather than rely on the ADC in my soundcard for it. Yes, 16 bit is fine so long as you're not constantly savin...

There is an effect to add "missing" high-frequency harmonics, typically called an "exciter" effect after the famous Aphex Aural Exciter [/u] (a hardware audio processor). GoldWave does not have this effect built in, but you can find software with it, and there is a post by Bland...

Restoring High Frequencies

Hello everyone, it's nice to be here. :D Very satisfied GW user for a good while now, mainly use it for remastering vinyl stuff (hint: Highpass filter, 40Hz, steepness 5, works wonders for filtering out noise). Anyway, I was wondering if there was a way to restore high frequencies. I have a few belo...
