Never seen that, and there doesn't appear to be any option in GW to force a stop before the track length runs out. It might be a case of level-activated recording going a bit funny on you (I never use level-activated recording though, so I can't say any more) or it might be drivers/codecs acting up.

I'd be surprised if resampling actually didn't add artefacts - when you think about it, you're adding in information that wasn't there in the first place, so there must be a consequence of some kind. The cartridge on my TT is actually specced up to 50Khz, but in practice I've only ever seen it outpu...

Just got the same, again only one libflac on my PC. Interestingly, I was able to open the FLAC in Audacity, and it seems that it was one of two things happening: * Either GW barfed on a silence of about 4 seconds in the middle of the file (I'd consider this unlikely), or * Audacity was better able t...

The only real way to do this is by using batch processing. The chain editor doesn't allow most of these effects, because they either need a pre-scan or need to access more than one sample at a time. Copy your noise print into the clipboard, then set up a batch job containing a pop/click, a clipboard...

GoldWave is a well-known reputable product that gets a lot of custom through word-of-mouth. I don't believe for one minute that Chris would put malicious code in; it must be something else causing this. May I suggest: * Identify where you got your copy of GoldWave from. If you downloaded it from one...

Any AV program is perfectly capable of false positives. I've seen a commercial and well respected one bring down an email server (ouch!) entirely on account of a false positive. I was an AVG user until they brought out version 8; since then I've switched to Avast, and have never had a report of a vi...

I just put a shortcut to GoldWave in my "Send To" menu: C:\Documents and Settings\MyUserName\SendTo (it's a hidden folder so you'll need to turn on "Show hidden files and folders"). Works a charm, and I don't have to bother with setting up file associations. :D

Not a bad thing, there are certainly advantages to dithering, but they're not as huge as some people (such as the record industry) would like you to believe. Dithering can give you the illusion of more bit depth, but it's at the expense of introducing artefacts into the sound which weren't in the or...

I got to 10 cut/paste new operations before I got bored. Seems to be definitely isolated to something in your own machine, rather than a GW problem. I regularly edit very large WAV files (up to 2 GB and beyond) with no issues. Can I suggest that you do the "old favourites of troubleshooting&quo...

Be aware that when running NR on tape hiss, you're going to be cutting out a lot of high frequencies too. With some recordings the volume of the high frequencies will be lower than the volume of the hiss, and you could easily lose the entire top half of the frequency spectrum! EQ'ing afterwa...

It's possible, I've done this before. One example of where you might use it is if you have a processed copy with no cues and an unprocessed with cues.

If something's in the clipboard, my understanding is that GW will use it with NR. Chris confirmed this for batch processing a while back, so it should also be valid for chains. However, and it's a big however, the FFT processing required for NR means that there is overlap between sections, rather th...

You've probably guessed by now that there is no single best way, and that every one of us who does this has our own personal favourites, that are tried and tested for us. I tend towards a combination of methods, and have recently been doing the same as DewDude - only NR'ing the silent bits. I also f...

Even on a 64-bit OS, GoldWave is still a 32-bit application, and will operate in the WoW64 compatibility layer. The application is what matters here, and when running a 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows, the limits for 32-bit Windows still hold. In fact, unless the application is specifically bui...
