Cellphone ringtones

Post by mperry »

I've been playing around with goldwave in order to create my own ringtones for my cellphone using mp3s. I've been having problems getting songs to sound somewhat normal on a cellphone, usually very distorted. Has anyone else had experience with this? Please give me some tips.

Check to see what attributes the cell phone supports. You may need to use a lower sampling rate or bitrate. If you are creating mono files, reopen the file in GoldWave to make sure it sounds normal. Some older versions of the LAME MP3 recorder create distorted mono files.

Running these effects makes it sound much better on mobile phones (cellphones):
  1. Compressor/Expander - Reduce loud parts
    Equalizer - Reduce Bass

just a note, funformobile.com has a lot of information about different formats and the different cell phones. It can tell you which audio formats to use for different models of phones, etc. May be helpful, too.
