hi,

Does golwave have a tool to compare 2 wave files ? i did not find any feature in the menu.

i do not know other software audio tool which can manage that feature whereas it would easy to do with Godwave.

imagine that :
- i select many files in the batch lot window dialog (add files).
- i juste press the "compare" button

then goldwave displays a simple rapport like :

file 1 : length volume peak bitrate format
file 2 : length volume peak bitrate format

in fact i need such tool to compare similar tracks from different sources (like an original CD and a new edition/reissue).

thanks for a tip.
have a good day

There is Tool -> Amplitude Statistics but I don't know if you can "use" that information automatically, and that's only part of the information you're looking for.

I don't think GoldWave "knows" anything about the original bitrate or bit depth. It works "internally" with uncompressed 32-bit PCM. (It will keep the original sample rate.)

well,

here i have another case.
i have two musics from different CDS. i would have to know if they are different or not.
different by volume or different by content : 2 differents ways which i care

Kraftwerk Techno Pop (uk language)
Kraftwerk Techno Pop (german language)
Image Image

Without having to listen to both, goldwave can't tell me the song are different. both are same length too!
But my eyes can see little things different in the graph..
one have german language sample, other have english language sample.

Best regards

You can try the new Tool | Compare Files feature. However if one file is German and one English, then of course they are different. You might try using the Reduce Vocals or Stereo Center effects to eliminate the vocals so you can compare the music.

Load both files to GW. GW only works on the audio-part, ignoring tags, etc. (which can result in different file-sizes).

Copy the entire first file to the clipboard (select all if necessary).
In the second window (again select all), use Mix > tick the Invert box > OK.
(This effectively subtracts one file from the other, sample by sample.)

Then check the result with Maximize Volume.
If the (audio parts of the) files are identical the current maximum will be 0.0000 (-200dB) at position 00:00:00.00000.
A maximum value of 0.0001 (-84.28dB) probably indicates that dithering has been applied previously when converting one or both of the files. The difference is inaudible.

Otherwise look/listen for the differences.
---------------
TIP: I often use this procedure to compare the files before and after a noise-reduction stage (wet/dry).
The waveform shows me where to concentrate, and listening to the DIFFERENCE I can explicitly hear what has been removed or changed. If I only hear the snap, crackle and pop of vinyl that's great. If I recognize any of the wanted signal (beat, percussive attack, etc.) I know the cleaning-settings were too aggressive.

it would be good if Goldwave could put a color on which part of the WAVE is different or similare at 100%
