Can't play wav file on Windows Media Player

Recently upgraded to v 2.54. When I convert a wma, the resulting file does not play on WMP 10. It says I need a codec (MicroSoft PCM Format 1). With earlier version of MQ, the wav files play on WMP as is. Do I need to adjust the wav settings?

I re-installed v2.52 and the wav file I created plays on WMP10 with no problems. What's the difference with v2.54?

Make sure you select 16 bit file attributes. If you select 24 bit or 32 bit, it will not work in Windows Media Player.

I have a similar problem--not only are wav files not playing, but neither is the audio for many wmv files. It's always worked before. Try not to yell me out, but should I just forget WMP and move on to a different default media player?

If 16 bit wave files are not playing in Windows Media Player, it may be more of a problem with the sound driver, the computer's audio setup, or the volume controls. Any program should be able to play 16 bit wave files.
