Quicktime (MOV) file - no sound?

Post by DaveG2 »

Multiquence v2.53
I can load the video portion of a Quicktime .MOV into Multiquence, but the audio doesn't come with it. (I can also split it and do other editing).

Video was generated by my Kodak digital camera - Kodak's specs indicate it is Quicktime CODEC MPEG4. Windows right-click Properties - no information of any value (no versions, codecs, etc.)

Any way to bring in the audio portion?

Never mind

Apparently I had not loaded "Quicktime authoring" - sheesh... for a company with software for those who cannot think, Apple has weird and puzzling processes and addons with QT for Windows.

Anyway, audio now comes in as a separate track, which I assume is the right thing.

The answer seemed to become obvious to you - but I'm not catching on...

I'm having the same problem: importing a quicktime movie clip captured from my Kodak camera, but no sound. When played standalone, the audio is fine.

I see what you wrote about "quicktime authoring" but I don't understand what it is. I'm quite computer literate, but apparently not quicktime literate.

I have version 2.54 of MQ.

Thanks,

Dave.

Quicktime authoring is a separate download from the standard QT package. The standard package only allows for playing QT files, not creating or editing them.

But the problem that I'm having is inside MQ. I was expecting some kind of configuration or plugin fix for this program. It sounds like "quicktime authoring" or "standard qt" is a *different(?)* program? How does loading some *other* program fix a problem that I'm having inside Multiquence?

Sorry to be somewhat dense on this...

QT authoring seems to have disappeared

Post by DaveG2 »

Since July, QT appears to have changed -- now there seems to be no separate download for authoring that I can find on Apple's site. There certainly was last July.

Chris hopefully will jump in on this one...

Meanwhile, Multiquence (I think) reaches out to various players and tools on your computer -- think of them as built-in plug-ins & tools. To get full QT functionality requires... maybe... an extra download... at least it did as of July last.

My version of QT player is 6.5.1. The various plugins and dlls that I loaded in July 2005 are as follows:
nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
QuicktimePLugin.class
npqtplugin4.dll
npqtplugin3.dll
npqtplugin2.dll
npqtplugin.dll

I've archived off the original (and apparently now missing) Apple download, so I can't supply the name of that.

For all I know, this capability is now included in the latest QT download.

I'd recommend installing the latest version of QuickTime (even the iTunes version). Some recent video files require the latest decoder modules not found in older versions of QuickTime.
